The metaverse and Web3 are changing the way businesses interact with their customers. With a new platform for marketing, businesses can reach out to customers in ways never before possible.
"The metaverse is a virtual reality world where users can interact, game and experience things as they would in the real world. They can immerse into this world and interact with objects and people, in an augmented reality"
Try thinking about Fortnight, where players compete in real time and attend events held in the digital world during the game. Most notably Travis Scott’s virtual concert he held over Fortnite’s servers, served as a precursor to what's about to come.
Every person playing in real life has their own unique avatar, and plays in the game with their own, personalized digital representation. Their biggest draw to the game was their level progression system.
The battle pass would allow players to unlock "skins" for their character. These skins would change the appearance of their avatar or of their items. This would be a representation of a non fungible token (NFT).
A metaverse is always active, and exists in real time. They typically run on decentralized blockchain servers where users connect on a P2P basis. This makes Web3 marketing look a little different from traditional digital marketing. This is different from the current setup of the world wide web.
The universes are fully functional and self-sustaining, with in game economies and different factions, plots of land, and currencies.
You can imagine individual metaverses being their own planet. Essentially, users will be able to enter the metaverse with and begin playing, investing, and so much more.
There are many reasons why marketers are flocking to the metaverse. It’s new, and faster connections finally exist to support growing environments. The metaverse provides opportunities for brands to communicate with customers in a more interactive way than traditional advertising.
Coca-Cola recently created a virtual world called "Coke Town" as part of its promotional campaign for the 2010 World Cup. In Coke Town, players could explore a virtual replica of South Africa, interact with other users, and participate in contests for prizes.
The metaverse also offers opportunities for businesses to target potential customers more effectively. The possibilities for metaverse advertising are literally endless.
For example, think about the data collected from users who visit a virtual world, or shop in a virtual space! Businesses can gain insights into what products and services people are interested in. This information can then be used to create targeted marketing campaigns that are more likely to succeed than traditional advertising methods.
Compared to traditional advertising methods, the metaverse has a number of advantages. The metaverse offers businesses a new way to reach and interact with potential customers. By creating virtual worlds or shops, businesses can collect data about what products and services people are interested in.
This information can then be used to create targeted marketing campaigns such as on social media, that are more likely to succeed than traditional advertising methods.
Additionally, the metaverse allows companies to build relationships with their customers by offering a more interactive and engaging experience than traditional advertising.
Coca-Cola's Coke Town is one example of how a business has successfully used the metaverse to market its products and services. Consequently, businesses that are not already using the metaverse as part of their marketing strategy should consider doing so.
As the metaverse evolves, it will become an increasingly important tool for businesses to reach and interact with customers. Marketers who don’t begin using the metaverse now may find themselves at a disadvantage in the future. So, if you haven’t already started exploring this new frontier, it’s time to get started.
